A group of five of us went to Rimetea. We rented three rooms that were comfortable and clean. Our host made sure that the fires were kept going in our stoves and sobas when we were out and away from our rooms. In conjunction with the rooms, we had our meals at Maria's, the furniture painter's wife. Her food was fabulous. Also in her home, Melinda, their English speaking daughter, assists in serving meals and tells us about the history here. She was very helpful to assist us in finding things we asked about in Rimetea, even taking us on a tour of the town and museums. We had a thoroughly enjoyable two day stay in Rimetea.

"A great stay in the beautiful Apuseni mountains."

This friendly gasthouse is situated in one of the most beautiful parts in Romania. Although the village is getting a bit touristy, in the surrounding fields and mountains you are the only one (even in August). There are many good marked routes for hiking and detailed maps are available in the local museum. The food in the gasthouse is magnificent. It is made from local products and everything is home-made. The daughter from the owner speaks fluent English and German as well as Hungarian. Romanian is rare spoken in Rimetea. The rooms are clean and in a traditional Hungarian style. Without own transport the village is difficult to attain, but hitchhiking is a good opportunity, so I did. The best option is from Aiuds railway station. Ask there for the road to Rimetea. There are also leaving a few daily buses. Thanks to the German who took me back to the railway station.
