Entering the Silla, guests cross a typical Florentine style courtyard which, before the construction of the "Lungarni" (streets that run along the river), gave directly onto the banks of the Arno. The palace is named "Amici" after the illustrious scientist Giovan Battista Amici who lived there in the 18th century. Amici greatly contributed to the development of the telescope and microscope and also participated in the construction of the famous astronomic observatory in Arcetri.
