Cavtat is tourist and cultural center of the Konavle region, south most region of the country of Croatia. Places like Cavtat, which offer so much to the visitor and occupy such a small place are pretty rare these days. Natural beauties, rich cultural and historical heritage and other turistical offers make it one of the most attractive destinations on the Adriatic Sea and an ideal place for a vacation where everybody can find what they are looking for: enjoy peaceful and hidden coves, long walks by the sea or maybe spend your vacation more actively with recreational, sport, entertainment, and cultural programs offered.
Cavtat, antical Epidaurus was an important roman colony in this region, which was destroyed by the breach of the Slavs and Avars after the fall of the West Roman Empire. At that time citizens of Epidaurus fled to the nearby Laus Rave Ragusa which later became Dubrovnik. During the rule of the Republic of Dubrovnik, Cavtat was the second harbor, commerical and administrative center of the Republic.
Besides the cultural-historical amenities which you must see (Bukovac gallery, Bogišić collection of valuable books, collection of coins from antical and Republic of Dubrovnik coins, Mausoleum of the Račić family made by Meštrović, Rectors palace, Church of St. Nikola), there are many cultural festivities which are held through the whole year.
